My Stoneware Ceramics Journey

From Interior Design to Creative Renewal

In 1994, I left a thriving career in commercial interior design in Los Angeles and New York City to move to Hamburg, Germany, following my husband’s exciting professional opportunity. While navigating language barriers and starting anew, I took on consulting work for German executives but soon felt creatively unfulfilled, missing the aesthetic engagement that had defined my early career, including my post-collegiate days at Ikea’s inaugural U.S. store.

Discovering Ceramics in Northern Germany

Adjusting to the grey, rainy climate of northern Germany was a major challenge, but a friendship from language school offered a new path. Invited to take a ceramics class at Keramik Art Studio—one of Northern Germany’s finest private master ceramics schools—I embarked on five years of study under master Christoph Hansing. This period sparked my passion and led to opening my first ceramics studio in Hamburg, marking the true beginning of my stoneware ceramics journey.

Artistic Growth in Italy and Beyond

Upon relocating to Italy, I expanded my artistic practice by welcoming guests to my hilltop studio in Acqui Terme, sharing the beauty of ceramics and crafting with them. After selling our Bed & Breakfast, I settled in the Black Forest, where I continue creating stoneware vessels, earthenware pieces, and decorative tiles for collectors, restaurants, and wineries, combining tradition with contemporary artistry.

Alongside producing functional vessels, I create imaginative earthenware artworks and handcrafted decorative tiles that celebrate texture and form. Each piece reflects my dedication to quality materials, authentic techniques, and artistic expression cultivated over decades.
