RESTORATION &

INTERIOR DESIGN

Our two seventeenth-century Italian townhouses are being reimagined as a modern home, guest house and studio. This restoration blends old-world materials with contemporary design and deep respect for craft.

walls that speak to me

I stand and absorb the feel of the cool stone against my palm, as I have with every property we’ve restored. Ask permission to move history forward in time. To recreate and reimagine, but with respect and care, and the wisdom that what we do is for the ages, not for the drop of time we’ll be here.

The Village

Murazzano: Edge of the Langhe

High on the southern rim of Piedmont, where the vineyards give way to woods and pastures, lies Murazzano — a hilltop village that seems to hover between sky and sea. From its medieval tower, the view sweeps across the Barolo hills to the north and, on clear days, all the way to the shimmer of the Mediterranean an hour to the south.

This is the heart of the Alta Langa, a quieter, wilder counterpart to the famous wine lands below. The slopes here are steeper, the air cooler, the rhythms slower. Goats graze on the meadows that patchwork the hillsides, giving milk for Murazzano DOP, one of Italy’s oldest protected cheeses — soft, tangy, and made by hand in small stone dairies much as it was centuries ago.

The same altitude that favours goats also shapes the vineyards. Here the grapes ripen slowly, building the structure and acidity that make Alta Langa DOCG Metodo Classico - among Italy’s most elegant sparkling wines. Each bottle spends years resting on its lees before release, carrying the clarity of this higher elevation — a brightness that feels both Alpine and maritime.

Murazzano sits on the threshold between worlds: the sacred geometry of Barolo’s endless Nebbiolo vineyards to the north, and the temperate, fresh winds of Liguria to the south. It’s a place of transition and synthesis, where white grapes flourish, the light changes constantly and life still moves slowly, with contentment at its core.

The Projects

Two adjacent Murazzano village homes, each with sections built between the 15th and 19th centuries, on a quiet street, backing up to stunning southern views of the Ligurian Apennine and the French Alps.

Project 1

The Guest House

Before the Reno

This townhouse has 60 centimetre thick walls, wooden beam ceilings and a vaulted ceiling in the kitchen. We’re reimagining it as an elegant, artful guest house for both friends and paying visitors. We were in the Bed and Breakfast business in Italy for 10 years, and while we won’t be doing that type of hospitality, we see this independent guest house as the perfect location for people to discover yet another beautiful part of the Piemonte wine country.

This guest house is about 850 squre feet / 80 square meters. Details will include a wood stove, beautiful furnishings, handmade pottery and a complete kitchen with dishwasher and stove. The views to the back from the living room are exquisite.
